Artist Diem Chau thinks big, but the scale on which she works is impossibly, amazingly tiny. Her piece Pencil (gorilla), on display at G. Gibson Gallery through Oct. 5, is carved on the tip of a carpenter’s pencil. “I like to experiment with different mediums,” she says, “but I mostly focus on found objects and everyday things like cups, dishes, crayons and pencils.” She chooses these recognizable elements so that her work will resonate with everyone, not just those in the art scene. “I think of my work as a gateway drug to the arts.”
