In further developments of Hollywood-level artistry on a DIY budget, we premiere the uber-cool, so-simple-it’s-brilliant video for Soultanz groover “Sugar Mama.” We’ve been onto the Seattle electro-soul duo for a minute now, and producer Jared Rubens and singer/producer Shayhan Mashayekh continue to shine in their own slick, funky, dancefloor-friendly way.

Their latest, “Sugar Mama,” sounds like it was born poolside in Rio with a piña colada in hand. Apparently, it was written and fleshed out in a Seattle studio in 2015; Soultanz brought in female vocals and saxophone via AllA & theDGTL, respectively (aka Alla Kocheryan and Jake Hillard). After unearthing the song earlier this year, they enlisted animator Araless to set it in a sensual, swaying rotoscope style—his first time attempting the technique—and now here we are. This thing practically sweats with tropical heat.

These days Seattle is a hotbed of cutting-edge electro-pop talent. Soultanz is among the best, and songs like “Sugar Mama” is why. Check it out below.
