Inside the 135-year-old Garden House on Beacon Hill, Croatian American choreographer and theater-maker Petra Zanki built a temporary artistic home for her site-specific piece Freight. Drawing on her personal experience and building in collaboration with her 11 dancers, Zanki transmuted “the in-between life of an immigrant” into movement. The late-October performance dates were poignant. Despite advocacy group Beacon Arts’ best efforts to protect Garden House, the historic property was sold early in October. As of press time, the buyer, and the building’s future, remain unknown.
