“It was one of those days when everything looks perfect,” says photographer Andrew Waits of his travels across the state to capture images for this issue’s road trip story. “I was resisting the urge to pull over every mile to capture some scenery.” This issue’s cover image was taken on a stretch of Highway 124 between Pasco and Waitsburg (no relation). On the way, Waits discovered the perfectly shaped tumbleweed. After featuring it in some of his shots, he stashed it near the highway to take back to Seattle the next day. Sadly, the weed was too big for his car. “I almost cried,” he recalls.
