Warren Caves is a self-professed art material geek. “When I was a kid, I got art supplies instead of toys,” he explains. “I was always drawing on, cutting up and gluing things together.” Now, this Army vet and dot-com boom and bust survivor (graphic design, technical writing) has opened Tacoma Art Supply (1552 Jefferson St., 253.444.2341, www.tacomaartsupply.com) to cater to South Sound artists’ most exacting needs. “There are more and more accomplished artists here, working in varied media. And they are very discerning about their materials,” says Caves. He’ll be stocking the cool stuff you can’t find anyplace else, making this a welcome, centrally located resource center for materials and networking.

Things change: unfortunately, in December 2010, Tacoma Art Supply will shut its doors indefinitely.
