On April 8, arts advocate Melissa Hines died from a rare form of cancer. She was 63. A willing servant of Seattle’s arts community, Hines had a hand in some of the most important institutions in the city, helping guide the missions of the Empty Space Theatre, King County Arts Commission (now 4Culture), the Seattle International Children’s Festival (Giant Magnet) and, most recently, the city’s Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, where she served as director of cultural partnerships until her death.

A memorial service will be held May 9, 2011 at Town Hall, from 3 to 5 p.m.
