Solar Power: New Sounds in Seattle Hip-Hop cover painted by Ari Glass

The cover is a painting by Ari Glass. The vinyl inside is a luminous shade of amber. And the 14 songs collected on Solar Power: New Sounds in Seattle Hip-Hop represent the city’s wildly diverse crop of talented, of-the-moment MCs and producers. Most of them—Gifted Gab, DoNormaal, Remember Face, Dave B, Taylar Elizza Beth, Sendai Era and others—have been celebrated in these very pages, so executive producer/Crane City Records founder Gary Campbell enlisted City Arts senior editor Jonathan Zwickel to pen liner notes for the compilation, available now. Campbell, perhaps Seattle’s biggest local-hip-hop fan, funded the project with his Amazon stock vestments, sealing these young artists in wax—and for posterity—forever.
