At the intersection of Seattle hip-hop’s rising mainstream profile and the general pop-ification of hip-hop and EDM lies the current incarnation of Capitol Hill Block Party. This year’s main stage acts left little room for rock ‘n’ roll; even Father John Misty, aka erstwhile longterm Seattleite Josh Tillman, leaned more toward big-band schmaltz than the beer-swigging boister that launched CHBP 20 years ago. Otherwise, it was dance music—hip-hop and/or EDM, much of it local—that ruled the lineup.
