WHO Ms. Briq House, the 32-year-old burlesque performer/teacher/producer, intuitive intimacy instructor and motivational speaker. A Seattle native whose family relocated from Birmingham, Ala., during the Great Migration, Briq focuses on creating intimate arts healing spaces for POC-centered work. THE LOOK “Part Foxy Brown, part Lady of the Night, part Mystic Medicine Woman, part Jet Magazine Beauty of the Week, part ’90s Fly Girl. Anything form-fitting: I’m all about showing off this size 16 frame. I also love mixing patterns and bright colors. Depending on which hustle I’m working I can go from oversized tee and leggings to wearing a collar and a see-through vinyl apron with matching patent leather pumps, panties and a leash.”
ICONS “Diana Ross, Chaka Khan, Eartha Kitt, Angela Davis, Shirley Chisholm, Bessie Smith, Flo-Jo, ’70s pin-up girls, Sade, Grace Jones, Naomi Campbell, urban models from ’90s men’s magazines.”
UP NEXT The Sunday Night Shuga Shaq takes place every second Sunday of the month at Theatre Off Jackson. Also keep an eye out for a new line of Briq House merch in August, as well as a series of Body Love workshops in Seattle and Portland.
