Part 3 of our original serial, Your Crooked Neighbor, is here! Check it out now in the Ampersand section online.
In this episode, the narrator goes on a first date with Justin, the guy who randomly asked him out while helping a friend “recover” in an alleyway. Things get pretty up close and personal. But it’s unclear whether our anti-hero has found a path to fully get over his recent breakup or not.
If you’re new to the series, start with Part 1, here.
I think you’ll really enjoy the dry and witty observations of our pseudonymous writer, who gives you some insight into one, seemingly banal, life of a young, gay man living in Seattle today. The writer describes the series as “not quite autobiography. Still, it’s closer to life than fiction. It’s life, episodic.”
Here’s a blurb to whet your appetite a bit:
It lasted for almost three hours. There was a freedom to him in bed that I was unfamiliar with, a thoughtlessness – I mean that in a good way. He was wholly present with no concerns about the minutes or morning or months after, apart from safety. It was fun and special to be a part of it, to be one of its essential parts, but during the act I saw it at its clearest, how different we were. While Justin drifted further into a conscious-less, nerve-ending-filled state, I felt like I was snapping back and forth in time on a tether tied to the moment.
