The Song Show: Kerry Zettel
See Me River front man Kerry Zettel performs "Ed Jackson" at the Song Show, back when Sound magazine hosted the series live at the Can Can.
Zettel's trademark drone is soft yet haunting as the song tells the tale of Ed Jackson, a former Capitol Hill resident who committed suicide after allegedly setting fire to the Mary Anne apartment buildings where he lived, which were due for demolition to make way for condominiums.
Mark Baumgarten sat down with Zettel to discuss working class heroes and the dark and heavy songs his band is known for, despite Zettel being a self-proclaimed "pretty happy dude." While See Me River may be progressing towards a reinvention with a lighter sound, Zettel shows that his "mopey side" can still come out in his songwriting.
