The Song Show: John Van Deusen

John Van Deusen of Seattle's the Lonely Forest sings an acoustic version of "We Sing in Time" from We Sing the Body Electric at the Can Can.

This indie group from Anacortes has increased their fanbase exponentially in the past few years with their catchy melodies, strong lyrics and Deusen's striking vocals, and now that they've signed on with Trans Records, it's only going to go up.

Playing a deceptively light melody on the guitar that compliments the heavy lyrics, Van Deusen hits the haunting high notes with ease and lets it all out with some powerful, drawn out notes. Without the presence of amps, he shows that the words behind the music rock as much as the music itself.

Van Deusen sits with Mark Baumgarten to discuss his trip to Africa and its influence on his music, and his general perspective on life, something that Van Deusen is more than willing to share.
