New Chamber vs. Chamber coverage

"Dueling" teams of musicians, consisting of popsmith Sean Nelson and marimba master Erin Jorgensen, brought together the divergent musical styles of chamber music and indie pop for the latest edition of Chamber vs. Chamber and found common ground with classic love songs in a program titled "Valentine's Day is Over." In this video, Nelson and company perform "Born without a Heart" from Nelson's forthcoming new album.

Also Mark Baumgarten, host for the evening, gives us the details on Sean Nelson's love life and the rest of the show on the CAB.

Chamber vs. Chamber | November 7, 2009

Two groups crowded into the Fireside Room of the Sorrento Hotel for what was supposed to be a chamber music face off, but what City Arts executive editor Mark Baumgarten has characterized as a surprisingly cordial meeting of the minds, unusual for its varied mix of music genres. These three videos, filmed and edited by Brad Curran, were taken during the interchanging performances, introduced by Baumgarten and The Gathering Note's Zach Carstensen. Read Baumgarten's post on the CAB to hear more about what went down that night (including an almost disastrous technical issue).

Cellist Lori Goldston  performs a Bach Cello Suite

Lori Goldston was then joined by the rest of Spectratone, including Kyle Hanson on accordion, Kane Mathis on oud and Jane Hall on percussion. The group performed its own compositions, with a tip of the hat to contemporaries the Black Cat Orchestra, as well as chamber innovator Bela Bartok.

Loch Lomond performs  “Elephants and Little Girls”

Chamber vs. Chamber will be back at the Sorrento with a new line up of performances this spring. Stay tuned on the CAB for details. Or follow City Arts on Facebook.
