The Producer Made Me Do It

Don’t let the self-deprecating company name fool you. Numerous grants and commissions suggest this local playwright’s works are not easily forgotten.

The Greatest Plays Ever Written by Nick Stokes, two new plays from Probably Forgettable Productions (written by Nick Stokes, directed by Phoebe Keleman and produced by Evan Tucker), debuts on November 5, 2009 at Old City Hall. The Sound We Make revolves around three homeless locals coping with the loss of a street legend. “Homelessness is not an issue I’ve tackled personally, but it’s important to have some understanding and empathy,” Stokes says. In Whiteout, a snowstorm traps a young traveler and an old caretaker in a Montana motel. “Basically it’s a rumination on communication and the ways that we try to connect with other people,” he explains. Asked about the grandiose program title, Stokes chuckles and credits the producer.“ The Greatest Plays Ever, well, I guess I did agree to it,” he says, “and as the creator, I do get pretty interested in what I’m doing.”
