Beauty Alert
I just finished Tom Llewellyn and Lance Kagey’s article in your September/October edition (“This Strange Thing of Ours”) and though biased – I’m a graphic designer and a lover of letterpress poster making – I wanted to pass kudos on to your city and your pub for giving props to and editorial space highlighting this outbreak of beauty. The telephone poles of your city offer wonderful gallery space for these guys’ thoughtful words (yes, witty and spiritual) and arresting images. May they propel Tacoma into thoughtful, intentional action on behalf of their community and incite the imaginations of passers-by.

No, not pioneer square!
I read “This Strange Thing of Ours” with bemused interest in the authors’ jocular insider humor. But they lost credibility as “Tacoma artists” when they listed under the ten worst things about Tacoma: “2. We still want to be Seattle when we grow up.” No real Tacoman wants our beloved city to resemble that city to the north in any way, shape or form! A true Tacoman finds admirable qualities and soul mate cities in Portland or San Francisco. NEVER Seattle! I can only assume we will see the lad’s next article in the Seattle Weekly as they write from a studio in Pioneer Square. They can have it.
