Questions For Suzanne Skarr

How did this project get started?
I was at a Kulture Lab show last year and noticed a lack of women in the show. So I suggested forming a girls’ show and not letting any guys in. It was kind of a fourth-grader’s retort.

What does the group do? 
So far we’ve held two art shows. Both featured women artists exclusively. We’re planning a show titled “Sin-Sational Valentine” for February; information will be on the Tacoma art listserv.

Is there much gender inequity in the Tacoma arts scene? 
None that’s exclusive to this town. More women still need to know that they are allowed to get out and brag about the work they do.

Do you see the organization growing? 
I see this remaining a biannual event that helps artists benefit from networking on the basis of making art. Guy or girl – I don’t care. I just want to see even more happening for artists in this community.
