Do Drop In
- Bond Huberman — January 1, 2008

With a lot of work, Jaime Kay Newton and Jason Jones have transformed what was the worst bar on a dilapidated block into a friendly spot that promises to bring traffic back to McKinley Hill. Top of Tacoma (3529 McKinley Ave., 253.272.1502) is a neighborhood bar and café that’s clean and classy, but not at all fussy. Jones and Newton have roots in the arts community here: they met at a party celebrating the opening of the Museum of Glass. Local artists’ work hangs on the walls and overhead: custom glass light fixtures were fabricated by friends. The place looks really good, says Newton, “especially when it’s full of beautiful Tacoma people.”
