This Old House

The renovation of the Pantages Theatre, to be completed in October, is a $5 million-plus upgrading of the historic venue. The lobby has been doubled in size, a new box office and concession stand were installed, restroom facilities expanded, ceilings lifted, elevator access to the balcony level added and a new grand staircase built. Mayor Bill Baarsma calls this bit of urban renewal “key to having this beautiful venue meet the needs of our community and growing audiences.” Broadway Center for the Performing Arts resident companies — The Tacoma Opera, Tacoma City Ballet, Tacoma Philharmonic, Tacoma Concert Band, Tacoma Symphony, Tacoma Youth Symphony Association, Northwest Sinfonietta, Puget Sound Revels and Tacoma Actors Guild — inaugurate the rehabbed hall on October 13 at 8 p.m. “A Taste of the Arts…A Grand Opening Celebration” is your best bet to catch an early glimpse of the grand landmark made resplendent. Tickets: 253.591.5894.
