Jazz legend Wynton Marsalis, country/blues artiste Madeleine Peyroux, and flamenco don Paco De Lucia headline Vancouver’s biggest and most diverse summer festival. In addition to funk, Latin and world music stars, it also showcases modern jazz greats the Bad Plus and Robert Glasper, and modern not-jazz greats Blonde Redhead and Twin Shadow.

Victoria International Buskers Festival

Witness street performers from all over Europe, Australia, the United States and Canada at this family-friendly, free-to-attend event in downtown Victoria. Should you ever need a break from the unicycles, magicians and unicycling magicians, there’s always whale-watching, fishing and sailing excursions right from the city center.

Vancouver Folk Music Festival
July 15-17

From traditional sounds to 21st century creative musical fusions, the entire universe of folk is represented at this year’s VFMF at a spectacular waterfront setting. Performers include Roseanne Cash, Kathryn Calder, Buck 65, Justin Townes Earle, The Jayhawks, Sudan’s Emmanuel Jal, Mali’s Tinariwen and India’s Nomadic Caravan.

Salem Art Fair & Festival
July 16-18

More than 200 fine artists and craftspeople will be exhibiting among the oak trees at this weekend-long woodland Art Fair, now in its 61st year. Expect live music, hands-on art-making activities for kids, and Northwest wines and microbrews in two beer gardens, all for a $7 weekend pass.

Pickathon
August 5-7

The beautiful scenery is as much of a draw as the superb lineup at Pickathon. Located in 80 acres of verdant fields and forest—with audience views of Mt. Hood—20 minutes from Portland, this ”indie roots” festival boasts 35 acts including Mavis Staples, Black Mountain, Bill Callahan, Wye Oak, Fruit Bats and Damien Jurado.

Art In The Pearl: Fine Arts & Crafts Festival
September 3-5

Featuring the jury-selected work of 130 artists from across the U.S. and Canada, artist demonstrations, culinary arts and a children’s art area, Art In The Pearl also curates an impressive world music stage, which last year included local Turkish, Arabic, Nigerian, Japanese and Brazilian acts. Free admission.
