Behind the Scenes: The November 2010 Cover

While researching our cover shoot, I learned two things. First, despite the vest, the boots and the modified “piece of junk” that is the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo is not steampunk. He would need a top hat and a monocle. Second, Han Solo is definitely steampunk. You see, there is no right answer to the question of what steampunk is – although Diana Vick has her own formula (see page 30). The way I see it, steampunk is made up of individuals who live their own tailored lives, setting their own path by embracing the parts of the genre that best suit them. It’s not dress-up, and that’s why we photographed Donna Prior living her normal life, the way she chooses. •
