In our newest column about personal style, Seattle’s chic queen of stylish desserts shares not her recipes, but the secrets behind her own sweet look.

How would you define your personal style? Classic. I rarely follow trends, and I look for clothing that is well made and flattering and that won’t look dated in six months. I am a stickler for quality and attention to detail.
You recently appeared on Martha Stewart’s show. How did you decide what to wear for that? It was really nerve-racking to plan an outfit, knowing that I would be on national television standing next to Martha Stewart. Plus, there were all sorts of rules about what you can and can’t wear on her set. I ended up wearing a simple, classic navy-blue Theory dress with clean lines that looked good on camera.
What are your favorite places to shop? I prefer to shop at smaller boutiques. I love Impulse and Show Pony in Fremont, and Souvenir in Ballard has the best selection of unique jewelry. My favorite boutique on the Eastside is Promesse in Kirkland.
How has your sense of style influenced your business? Style plays a key role at my store. Just the way top fashion designers use the best fabrics, we use the best ingredients like Madagascar vanilla and Callebaut chocolate and sprinkles from France. Our cupcakes are definitely couture, one-of-a-kind creations.
Trophy Cupcakes just opened a third location at the Bravern, next to Neiman Marcus, Jimmy Choo, Ferragamo, and Louis Vuitton. Those are some stylish neighbors — are you intimidated? We are humbled to be included with such a fashionable group. I’m sure I’ll be spending a lot of time shopping with our new neighbors and picking up style tips.
