In Store

Black Friday just got a little brighter with the early opening of Kirkland Arts Center’s Art Sale

Kirkland Arts Center is a long-standing serious arts hub on the Eastside. And that doesn’t change when, once a year, it transforms into a temporary holiday shop. Here, instead of buying your mother those overpriced synthetic bamboo place mats, you can get her a one-of-a-kind vase, bowl or painting — and support a hardworking local artist — with a single purchase.

This year, the KAC Art Sale opens Friday, November 27, at Kirkland’s Parkplace center in a bigger and fresher iteration titled “has.” With more amenities than ever before, KAC is expanding opportunities to showcase works and strengthen its level of service to patrons and to the artists who participate. Conveniently located at the core of downtown Kirkland, “has” will offer extended shopping hours seven days a week, plus in-store art-making workshops for kids.

Has is partnering with Fancy, Schmancy and Pants (designer jewelry, toy and clothing stores, respectively) — also known as the Trilogy of Awesome — to host cooperative-consumer activity. The KAC shop will also rotate artist installations in its window to help entice passersby, and will feature an online store offering both in-store works and exclusive online offerings for those not interested in braving holiday traffic. “Has will be an amazing addition to Kirkland’s downtown,” says Sandy Bigley, marketing director for KAC, “unlike anything else around here.”

Stop by the Kirkland shop for a vast selection of handmade and functional artisan objects made by a variety of local artists, including Michele Cooper, Joy Hagen, Joanne Shellan, Larry Halvorsen, April Spehar, Christina Malm and Rebecca DeVere. It’s next to Noah’s Bagels and Museum Quality Framing, strategically placed, perhaps, for your snacking, shopping and gift-shadow-boxing pleasure.
