Morris Graves Centenary Invitational Art Exhibition & Séance / Tashiro Kaplan Building

Taking over three galleries in the Tashiro Kaplan Building (Rock DeMent, the Corridor, Angle Galleries), this tribute to Morris Graves will feature new work by Chris Crites, David Kane, Robert Hardgrave and dozens more. You can also purchase your membership so you can attend the members only séance on Graves’ 100th birthday this August 28th.

Xanadu: A Stately Pleasure Dome / SOIL

Commemorating the 30th anniversary of cult classic Xanadu, SOIL will transform into a colorful world of rollers skates, neon, muses and bubblegum. Don’t know your Xanadu history? Pick up this month’s City Arts and read Erin Shafkind’s essay on where she got her inspiration for this show.

Glory, Utopia (the head of Samuel Taylor Coleridge on the body of Terpischore) by Amanda Manitach, 2010

Thunderbitch / Tether Design Gallery

Curator Dan Smith continues his celebration of rock posters, this time focusing on the females of the NW from the past 40 years. It starts with posters by Gina Papen in the 60s and goes right to the present with recent designs by Emily Pothast. A beautiful, full color catalogue will also be available. Live music at the opening will include Barbara Ireland + Stone Gossard, Visqueen and Damien Jurado!

(Y)art Sale / Ouch My Eye

Do you like your art inexpensive and plentiful? Then swing by Ouch My Eye for their 1st (Y)art Sale. With over 200 “old artworks, forgotten pieces, orphaned prints, and the strange and unusual failed projects”, you’re sure to find something you want to take home. This event goes until 11pm.

Orange Crush / Punch Gallery

Mmmm… For the month of August, “PUNCH artists explore the most awesome color in the world.” It is a pretty great color (coincidentally City Arts cover color this month) and I’m sure all 21 of the past and present members of PUNCH will do something great with it.

And don’t miss these shows…
