The documentary of Seattle sonic artist and musician Trimpin screens tonight at Central Cinema, exploring the artist’s large-scale sonic sculptures and a collaboration with the Kronos Quartet. First screened at SXSW in 2009, Trimpin: The Sound of Invention also shows the artist creating his best-known local work, the Experience Music Project’s towering cyclone of guitars.

There’s something more portable in the works, too: a book entitled Trimpin: Contraptions for Art and Sound. At last week’s First Thursday Art Walk, he appeared at Paper Hammer/Marquand Books Studio to show a prototype of the book’s limited-edition slipcase. Named the BookBeatBox, it’s more a sculpture than a form of book protection, and he’ll have it on hand at tonight’s screening.

Central Cinema, 8 p.m.

1411 21st Avenue
