2011 Sasquatch! Lineup Announced

The most surprising thing to come out of last night’s kick-off party for this year’s Sasquatch! Music Festival was its lack of surprises.

Not to say that the lineup isn’t impressive — it is. It’s just that it revisits some well-trodden terrain. The Foo Fighters and Robyn are the only headliners — so far — who will both be making their first trips to the Gorge Amphitheatre for the four-day festival (May 27-30).

For the rest of the big names playing the tenth anniversary of the Northwest’s premiere music festival, organizers looked back at the first decade’s standard-bearers and asked them to return to Eastern Washington. Hence, a number of the headliners will be punching their Sasquatch! card for the fourth time, including Modest Mouse (2003, 2005, 2008), the Flaming Lips (2003, 2006, 2008), Death Cab for Cutie (2003, 2006, 2008) and the Decemberists (2004, 2006, 2009). Others are staging their first trip back, including Wilco (2005), Iron & Wine (2006) and Rodrigo y Gabriela (2008).

Returning artists — especially ones that call the Pacific Northwest home — have never been frowned upon at Sasquatch! In fact, they have turned in some of the most memorable performances in the festival’s history. Surely, for the tenth anniversary, this powerhouse Northwest lineup will make some new memories. Let’s hope we remember them.

A few items of note: The Flaming Lips will be playing their 1999 record The Soft Bulletin in its entirety. Wolf Parade is scheduled to appear despite the band’s announcment in the fall that it would be on “indefinite hiatus.” And Rebecca Gates?!
