Taste Test with Curtis Bright

Meet the most stylish man in City government. By day, Curtis Bright works in the probation services department of the Seattle Municipal Court. By night he runs the Bright Report, his year-old fashion blog and style guide. Growing up in Anchorage, Alaska, Bright observed his uncles wearing suits every day and his mom never let him leave the house with an untucked shirt. Now he’s intent on spreading the word. “Guys are paying more attention to what they’re wearing,” he says, “and I wanna be that conduit for men to know what’s up in Seattle.”

Ascending order

I get grilled octopus and an Estrella at Pintxo in Belltown then head to the Upstairs, which is literally an upstairs bar under the same ownership. It’s like hanging out in your own living room with good music and craft cocktails.

Top taco

I’ve lived in Pioneer Square for three years now and Copal is my favorite place to eat. It’s Latin-American-inspired food, and I’m addicted to their barbacoa tacos.

Quality afoot

My favorite item of clothing is my Brick + Mortar Alden shoes. Yenni Song is based here in Seattle and designs all the shoes she carries in her store in the Fairmont Olympic. They’re pricey but will last a lifetime if you take care of them.

Get into it

I have Oddisee in heavy rotation. He dropped The Iceberg a couple weeks ago. It’s deeply soulful and hits all the topics—money, sex, politics, race, religion. He’s coming to Neumos May 11.
